The 18th All Japan University Kendo Open Tournament (hosted by the All Japan Student Kendo Federation, sponsored by The Mainichi Newspapers Co., among others, and supported by NAX JAPAN and JP Logistics) will be held on December 14 and 15 at the Kamei Arena Sendai in Sendai City's Taihaku Ward. This nationwide tournament, characterized by its "open style without preliminaries," has grown into a large-scale event with more than 1,000 student participants over a quarter-century of history, and since last year it has opened its doors to students from overseas universities. Stakeholders are imbued with the spirit of kendo expressed in the phrase "Koken Chiai," meaning to foster friendships through crossed swords, for the tournament.
