The 18th All Japan University Kendo Open Tournament (hosted by the All Japan Student Kendo Federation, supported by Mainichi Newspapers and others, and sponsored by NAX JAPAN and JP Logistics) held the "Three-Dan and Above Division" on the final day, the 15th, at Kamei Arena Sendai in Taihaku Ward, Sendai City. In the three-person team competition, the Toyo University E team (Ukyo Omichi, Shuntaro Tomita, Ryoma Ibuka) defeated Chuo University D in the final match to win the championship.

The tournament is characterized by its "open style without preliminaries" and has a quarter-century history. This year, over 1,400 athletes from 8 student kendo federations across the country, from Hokkaido to Kyushu, participated. Following last year, the doors were also open to overseas universities, with 18 athletes entering from North America, Europe, and Asia.
